Shannon Pucifier is a 16-year old High School girl. She is a celiac, and unfortunately also suffers from arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and bowel disease. After spending two weeks in the hospital, bullies taunted the happiness out of her, about which she had posted.
What broke the nation’s heart was when Shannon’s Mom, Claire, posted Shannon’s pictures dawning a $600 prom dress, but yet giving it a miss. Shannon was so tormented that she decided to give the prom a miss. She was being targeted by the bullies for 18 months now. And on the prom day, she just wore the dress she had bought as long as five months ago, and then did nothing! Shannon will be starting college in Autumn and has to take five tablets a day for her various illnesses.
After the guys from Gosport Scooter Club heard this, they stepped up. They organized a rival party to “stick two fingers” up those bullies. They gave her a corsage having a picture of her later dad, Daniel. He was a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy, but died in 2007 in Germany, aged just 28. It was an amazing thing!
This alternative prom obviously had none of the bullies who would have had been there at the original prom. But it did have the bikers, Shannon’s step-dad, Kevin, her mom, her brothers, Alex and Brandon, her sister, Freya, and her “true friends.”
The Head Teacher at the Hampshire School where Shannon studies, said:
“The alternative prom is a lovely idea. It is a great example of the positive power of social media, and we hope it is a great success.”
As a parting note, we’d like to say that bullying is horrible. It’s one of the worst things that can happen to a growing mind at a school. Schools are supposed to be for children to learn and make friends. Not get bullied, depressed, and what not. Make sure that you stop any bullying when you can. And stick up a finger up the bullies as these guys did!
